About A Stitch In Time Design

I started A Stitch In Time, in Delaware County, PA, in 1985, right around the time my daughter was born. I was making baby clothes, curtains and quilts for her, and I was searching for a way to make money from home to help pay the mortgage. I had learned how to sew in Middle School, and I majored in sewing in High School. To be honest, I was born to sew. Thats just how God made me. When God shows you the talents he's given you, you don't ask Him why, you just embrace it. So, I did. I spent several years making custom wedding gowns, prom dresses, first holy communion dresses, halloween costumes and mother of the bride dresses.

One day I had just finished making a balloon curtain for my kitchen, and a girlfriend stopped by and admired it. She asked me if I could make one for her. I agreed and stopped by the local Joanne Fabrics for some swatches. I showed her the fabric swatches in her kitchen, she picked one, and I started sewing. A few days later I hung it for her in her kitchen, and she was over the moon in love with what I had created. By the following week, her mother and sister were calling me to come and decorate their homes too.

Over these 35 plus years, I've made hundreds of drapes, valances, cornice boxes and dust ruffles. I live and breathe interior design, and I love creating a whole new look and using color to affect the mood of a room. I so much enjoy transforming a room from drab to amazing with just a few small details.

Today, my small business in Delaware, is a family business. My grown children and my husband have all been part of my installation crew as well as part of my advertising crew. In addition to drapes and valances, we also sell custom blinds, shades and shutters for residential as well as commercial jobs. From the beginning, my goal was to offer a service that really taps in to my customer’s personality by meeting them in their home and guiding them through samples of fabrics, trims, rods, and ideas for soft treatments on their windows. I also bring a full line of blinds, shades and shutters so that the customer can see them in their home next to their furniture, walls, floors and carpeting. I really want my customers to enter their room and feel like the room embodies exactly who they are. It is so satisfying to give them that.

Theres an old saying, When you love what you do, you never have to work a day in your life. Thats my story!
